ROSEMARY WHITEHEAD (nee Burke)
------------------------------------------------------------
Derek and Mary Burke want to thank all our many friends here in Walberswick for their kind sympathy over the loss of our daughter "Rosie" who died peacefully in her sleep on 14th April , aged 41, from complications following breast cancer. Rosie was the much loved and loving wife of Tom Whitehead, mother of Rafe (6), Benedict (4) and Catherine (2), and sister of Elizabeth Tregear, Virginia West and Stephen Burke. Derek Burke.

BLYTH VALLEY COMPUTER SOCIETY
-------------------------------------------------------------
Our April meeting began with a brief AGM. The Chairman, Piers Ford-Crush, summed up this year's excellent events and remarked on record attendances. An illustrated talk, "Faking it on a PC", was given by the Chairman himself. During a fascinating evening, Piers showed us how easy it is to fake photographs or images using programmes like Photoshop and a digital camera.  We saw early examples of complex photographic manipulation from the mid 19th century, so-called psychic photos, examples of Russian dictator Stalin's airbrushing and cropping of political rivals from history, and unconvincing UFO pictures. Until recently images had to be altered by laborious cutting and pasting methods and superimposing multiple images during development and printing.  Now this can all be done with the click of a mouse. Our outing to East Anglian Pharmaceuticals Ltd next month will bring this year to a close. The 2004/2005 season will start on Friday, 1st October at 7.00 p.m. in the Village Hall.  No technical knowledge required.  For further information ring 722 255

LETTER FROM THE OLM
----------------------------------------
I am putting pen to paper (well not really, I'm putting fingers to keyboard!) just as Christian Aid Week draws to a close, so let me say a big 'thank you' to all those (young and old) who helped with the house-to house collection as well as to all of you who gave so generously to the work of Christian Aid. Next month we shall let you know how much money was collected in the village. In connection with Christian Aid, some of you may have heard mention of the parable of how to recycle a goat - if you want to learn more stop me and ask when you next see me!
At the end of this month I, together with all the other clergy in the diocese, will be going to The Hayes Conference Centre in Derbyshire for a four-day conference. We shall be listening to speakers (including the Director of Christian Aid, Dr Daleep Mukarji, who trained as a doctor at the Christian Medical College in Vellore), as well as taking part in various workshops. The present Archbishop of Canterbury will give the opening address. The aims of the conference are to help us, as clergy, to reflect upon the changes that have taken place in Church and Society in recent decades, and to help us to work out how we can use the opportunities that those changes offer. Whatever I learn at the conference will, hopefully, be useful in my ministry here in Walberswick.
Yours in Christ's service,
Brian Fisher.
