Overseas Postbag!
18/07/2004
Dear Editor,
I thought I ought to advise you a copy of your high-energy 'Village News' of July 2004 has reached me here in the remote countryside of central Ontario - remote from Walberswick, that is. One of your recent visitors, knowing my deep interest in English history, sent me a copy of the news, together with 'St Andrew, Walberswick - History of the Church' and Merle Tidey's comprehensive 'In and Around the Village of Walberswick' - all of it fascinating reading. I trust the ongoing unpleasantness between you Walberswickians and the men of Dunwich has abated somewhat over the years. It is very satisfying to see how unfaltering the community is in its determination to preserve the unique character and architectural heritage of the village. It is good too, to see that there is a continuing awareness of wildlife (ref. 'In and Around the Village . . .'pp. 32). One would expect your part of the coast to be a rewarding observation site for birds, both indigenous species and interesting migrants, with perhaps the occasional unlikely stray. When I finally win the lottery my plan is to visit Walberswick - together with the passage tomb of Newgrange, the dinosaur museum of Ulan Bator, and some of the world's other most interesting places. Good luck to the village in all its endeavours.
Tony Newman, Lisle, Ontario, Canada Great to know that interest in the village and the 'Village News' goes so far afield! (Ed.)
Cakes And Coffee Morning
We have had three very enjoyable and successful 'Cake and Coffee' mornings in the church porch during the summer and the final one takes place on Saturday the 4th September, from 10.30 a.m.-12.30 p.m. We will again have a fine selection of cakes, together with homemade jam and a plant and garden produce stall. So, come and join us and help boost the fund for the new equal-access toilet in the church.

SPEEDING IN THE VILLAGE
The Parish Council is receiving complaints of drivers, visitors and residents, travelling too fast in and out of the village. The Village Green area is especially dangerous with children likely to step out into the road at any time.
PLEASE, WATCH YOUR SPEED!

There's still time to join. If cycling is not your 'scene' nowadays, how about walking 'round Norwich or Ipswich churches? OR…Why not be a sponsored recorder in the church porch? All proceeds will be shared between the 'Suffolk Historic Churches Trust' and the church of your choice. Ruth Bassett, Herons, Church Field, Tel: 722474

The new season will start on Wednesday October 6th at 7.30 - to 9 p.m. in the Village hall. Carpet Bowls is good fun; we are not too serious and enjoy our evenings. We have a friendly match against Reydon once a year and an end of season Dinner, which this year was at The Bell.
