VISITORS GET STUFFED"

No, this is not some misquote from a villager in a national newspaper, but the painful outcome of the 5th annual cricket and boules matches against my visiting team on the weekend of the 4th September.
I would like to congratulate Walberswick for winning the cricket match for the first time and then going on to pick up all the medals in the boules - with Nigel, Doug and Kate winning the coveted gold. Despite this year's humiliating whitewash, Kate and I (and indeed all our friends) would like to thank the village for a great day of sporting and social entertainment. But be warned, we fully intend to restore our pride next year when the 'Toffers' celebrate their 25th anniversary.

Cancer Research U.K. - Mini Market

Once again our annual charity event for Cancer Research U.K will be held on Saturday, 4th December in the Walberswick Village Hall from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon. As well as our usual stalls, we hope to have some Christmas decorations for sale and there will also be Christmas cards on sale.
The silent auction will again take place and we hope to have approximately 15/ 20 items. The auction proves to be great fun and is a good fundraiser. I do hope you will give us your support to make this event the success we hope to achieve.

NSPCC Update

We had a successful House-to-House collection in July and raised the sum of £369.06. Our thanks go out to all the village residents for their generosity and also to the holiday visitors who were so willing to support this worthy cause.
On a very hot afternoon in August (one of the few) at our event of Teas and Stalls at Vine Cottage, we raised £344.33; again our thanks to all those who supported us on the day.

Our next event will be the Grand Auction on the 20th of November.

SEPTEMBER PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

Planning - The Parish Council had no objections to the erection of a detached double garage and annexe being built at Troy, Church Field. Planning permission had been granted by SCDC for repairs and improvements to the garage and studio at Te Awahou (formerly Mill House). Planning permission had also been granted for change of use and the erection of a two-story extension to Manor House, The Street but permission had been refused for the erection of a two-story building in the garden of Manor House. Permission had also been granted for a new dwelling house at Sandy House, Manor Close (the existing dwelling to be demolished).
Local Issues - The Council were informed that there was no law against fishing nets being placed close to the shore. A letter had been sent to the Ministry of Fisheries concerning the subject. The vacancy at 7 Adams Lane had been allocated to a local couple; the Parish Council was pleased at this outcome. The Environment Agency would be asked to repair a fence on the sea wall and to check the floodgates. A hole that had appeared on the road to the Bailey Bridge had been reported to the Highways Department.
Emergency Care Network - Primary Care Trusts will be taking over responsibility for ensuring medical care and advice can be accessed outside of surgery hours Full information about this service is posted on the notice boards on Stocks Green and the Village Hall.
