Obituary For Ivy Cross

Ivy Cross, née Kerridge, passed away suddenly on December 7 2004 after a short illness, at the wonderful age of 91. Her husband Harold, better known as Sony, died in 2003 aged 101.
Ivy was born in Ivy Cottage opposite the church, moving to the green when she married Harold. They then lived at Heath House on the common from the end of the war, until 1977 when they moved nearer to Ipswich to be closer to their daughter Tommy and family.
Ivy was a quite remarkable lady, often being taken for a 70 year old, by those who met her for the first time, with a cheerful, modern outlook and philosophical approach to life.
She will be greatly missed by many, especially by her daughter Tommy, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Smartie Tube Count Down!

Isn't it amazing how many twenty pence pieces it takes to fill a Smartie tube!
That is how many of you felt as you filled up your empty Smartie tubes during November, and that is certainly how we felt as we emptied them all and counted the contents!
There are still one or two tubes to be gathered in, but the amazing total so far is £375.
This is an excellent boost to our 'Loo' Fund Appeal and twenty pence pieces can once again start circulating freely in Walberswick.

LETTER FROM THE OLM

Well, here we are at the beginning of another New Year. None of us will know what is in store for us during 2005; there may well be happy times, there may well be sad times. Whatever the year brings, I suspect that for each of us there will be changes of some kind in each of our lives.
All I can say, as a Christian minister, is that my faith is firmly fixed in an unchangeable God - the writer of the letter to the Hebrews in the New Testament wrote these words,
'Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.'
As many of you have discovered by now, our monthly Luncheon Club seems to get more and more popular, not least because of the good food that is provided by our willing band of helpers. Each month people come along who have never been before and, like Oliver Twist, keep coming back for more.
If you have not yet experienced the delights of the Club why not take time out to join us, in the Village Hall, on Friday 14th January, at 12.30 p.m. The cost will remain at £5 for the foreseeable future.
A word of thanks to all those who made our Christmas services such a success, to those who played any part in the actual services, as well as to those who cleaned and decorated our ancient church. You were all magnificent!
With every blessing for 2005
Brian Fisher
