Major-General John Stanyer C.B.E.

Members of the Village will be sad to hear that John Stanyer ('General John') died on the 14th of May
John and Mary came to live in Walberswick in 1988. He was positive, enthusiastic, a doer and immediately threw himself with gusto into the British Legion, WATS, the Conservative Party, and the Flower and Vegetable Show. His welcoming nature found a happy home in our welcoming village.
Sadly, severe Alzheimer's disease blighted his last years and he and Mary moved a few years ago to Lindfield, Sussex, in order to be nearer to their daughters.

LETTER FROM THE OLM

Believe it or believe it not the Walberswick Luncheon Club has now been running for two years. It would seem an appropriate time, therefore, to thank everyone who has helped to make it such a friendly and successful occasion. Oh, and by the way, the next one is on Friday June 10th, 12.30 p.m. in the Village Hall.
The final weekend of June is going to be a busy one for the Anglican Church in Suffolk. For starters we are going to take over Portman Road! For the first time the Mother's Union, the world's largest Christian membership organisation will be holding its General meeting in East Anglia, on Saturday 25th June. The 26 Provincial Presidents representing the organisation's 3.5 million members in 76 countries will join thousands of members from the UK and Ireland. The previous evening at 7.15 p.m. there is to be a special service of Welcome & Celebration which is open to anyone who wishes to attend. It promises to be a unique occasion, the largest Christian Act of Worship to be held in Suffolk for at least 25 years. The Sole Bay Team will be arranging coaches to both of these events, entrance to which is free.
On Sunday 26th, again at Portman Road and starting at 6.00 p.m., the diocese is staging an evening of Christian Youth Worship called
Xpression05, featuring four of the UK's leading Christian bands. For further information please contact Simon Ward (722192) or me.
On the morning of Sunday 26th, at Bury St Edmunds cathedral, our new team curate, Caroline Hallett, is to be ordained deacon. A former schoolteacher, Caroline will be joining our team in September; she will be based at St Edmund's Southwold.

Yours in Christ's service,
Brian Fisher
