Save The Children

Riq's readings from "Three Men in a Boat" last month raised £725.
Sincere thanks to all who helped to make this such a worthwhile and enjoyable event, especially to Inga and Harry Edwards for the use of The Studio as the perfect venue.
Our next event is the Autumn Coffee Morning, which will be held on Saturday, 29th October in the Village Hall

Loo Fund Update

It is almost a year now since we held our first money-raising event for the loo fund. So far this year we have had three very successful events -in February a 'Candlelight Supper'; in May, on the Bank Holiday, a very popular 'Full English Breakfast' morning and also a delightful evening listening to a talk, with recordings, on the life of Dame Isobel Baillie.
With the proceeds from the many events we have held, together with generous donations and grants and the £27,000 already in the Vicarage Trust Fund, the money in the fund for the installation of an equal access toilet in the church now stands at £44,900.
Truly amazing and we thank everyone for their support.

"In Tune With Nature" - Another Do For The Loo!

On Saturday 20th August, the popular Soprano, Yvonne Robert, will make a welcome return to Walberswick in the Village Hall at 7.30 p.m. When there will be an entertaining and evocative evening of words and music relating to nature and the countryside.
Paul Dawson will accompany Yvonne on the piano and the narrator will be the distinguished Brian Hewlett, well known for his portrayal of Neil Carter in 'The Archers'.
Tickets are available from me at any time, or from the Tuck Shop from mid July onwards (01502-723025). The price includes canapés and a glass, or three, of wine.
The event is privately sponsored; so all proceeds will flow into the St. Andrew's church 'Loo Fund'.
Looking forward to seeing you,

Ian Bruce-Jones, (01502-724020)

NSPCC Sponsored Walk

The walk took place on Sunday 15th May, which was a wonderful, sunny day and the event raised £406.50.
We would like to thank all those who walked: especially the 'Tuck Shop' team and all the generous people who sponsored them.
Our next event will be 'Teas and Stalls' at Vine Cottage, The Green on Sunday the 14th August.

Harleston Players

Harleston Players, in partnership with Thomas and Co, Estate Agents, present a 'free of charge' performance of Twelfth Night Friday 8th July at The Ship Inn, Dunwich, 7.30 p.m. The Harleston Players are touring the region with their highly acclaimed 'open-air' Shakespeare. Twelfth Night is one of the funniest of Shakespeare's romantic comedies, ideal for a summer's evening in a pub garden! It's great entertainment with the riotous behaviour of Sir Toby Belch, cross-dressing of Viola, misplaced love, mistaken identity, pirates and plotters, enchanting music and songs and the fall of the pompous and self-loving steward Malvolio. Please come early, bring seating/ cushions and warm clothing. Sorry, no picnics. Drinks and meals are available from The Ship Inn.

Parish Council

Just a few days into the job and I commit a major goof. Last month's edition carried a personal message following my election as Parish Council Chairman.
I unforgivably forgot to recognise the tremendous hard work and commitment that your Parish Clerk, Vivien, puts in, frequently above and beyond the call of duty. Actually, although it is the formal title of her position, the word 'Clerk' is inadequate - nationwide there is an increasing tendency to recognise the role as 'Council Manager'. Thanks Viv!

Parish Council Report - 6th June

Planning - The Parish Council had no objections to the erection of a conservatory at 'Troy', Church Field. They also had no objections to replacement pontoons and walkways at Stage Nos. 9, 20 and 30 at Southwold Harbour. Planning permission had been granted for the erection of a building to provide changing facilities, safety kit storage, drying area and ticket sales on land at Southwold Harbour. However, Waveney DC had set a condition that the building should be removed and the site restored to its former condition should the current business offering boat trips from Southwold Harbour cease to exist. Councillor Hunt had attended an appeal hearing at SCDC to express the Council's opposition to the proposed development at Rose End. The Council are still awaiting the outcome.
One cycling proficiency course for older children had been held in the village and another for younger children was being held on 11th and 12th June.
A suggestion to place a recycling bank near to the sports field was discussed but rejected because of the difficulty of vehicles turning for collection.

Viv Hunt, Clerk to Council
