Walberswick Open, 1st October 2005
The weather on the day was cloudy and windy, however, it was dry and very playable. Altogether there were 22 entries, although those from Walberswick were a bit thin on the ground. The day was also a bit special in that, for the first time, a lady was in first place. Well done to everybody who took part.

WI AGM & Talk On An Indian Orphanage
We hope as many members as possible will be able to attend the AGM on Wednesday 9th November at 2.30 p.m. in the village hall. This will be followed by a short talk on an Indian orphanage. At our October meeting, a local historian, Pip Wright, gave us a most interesting talk on John Heigham Steggall, born in Needham Market in 1789. John Steggall, whose autobiography was published in 1857, had lived as a gipsy, a surgeon, a sailor, a soldier and, finally, a parish priest. Mr Wright and his wife eventually tracked down a copy of this amazing life story 'The Suffolk Gipsy', and have revised and researched and recently published their findings.

Stamps For The Children's Society
A heart felt big thank you to all those who have been saving stamps for the Children' s Society. Unfortunately they can no longer find buyers for the lower denominations of British stamps, but can still use any over 30p. They have buyers for all the foreign stamps you can get. Do please go on saving.

Parish Council Report - 3rd October
Planning - Permission has been granted for a single storey rear extension and first floor balcony to Winfield House, Stocks Lane and for the erection of part two-storey and part single-storey side/ rear extension and replacement garage at Blythwyc Cottage, The Street. 2 Anchor Cottages has also been granted permission to build an extension to form a dining room and bathroom on the first floor. A planning appeal has been made to the Secretary of State following the refusal for permission to build a pair of semi-detached dwellings and two detached garages on the land at The Studio, Stocks Lane. Works to the Bailey Bridge - Suffolk County Highways Department will be carrying out essential repairs to the Bailey Bridge, over the River Blyth, in November. It is understood that the bridge will remain open to pedestrian traffic except for short periods (of 30 to 40 minutes duration) when it will be necessary to close the bridge for safety reasons. (For further information see Parish Council notice board outside Village Hall). Emergency Plan - The Chairman, Robin Buncombe and Vice Chairman, Madeleine Dabbs, have been working on an 'Emergency Plan' for Walberswick over the last few months. Councillor Dabbs has now formulated a letter and questionnaire, which will be sent out to every household in the near future. Beach Clean - This has been arranged for Sunday 20th November.
Viv Hunt, Clerk to the Council
