Royal British Legion Notices

The Poppy Appeal
The sale of Poppies, Wreaths, Chaplets and Sprays, and money raised at the Coffee Morning and Bazaar and given in the collection at the Remembrance Sunday Service totalled £2062, in line with previous years.
I would like to thank those who organised and planned the collections and the events, those who helped generally and those who gave so generously. I am always surprised at the amount we make when I consider how many other fund raising events there are during the year.
Thank you all so much.

Future Of The Branch
As no volunteers have come forward to take on the key jobs on the Committee (as previously advertised), members at the AGM on the 21st November 2005 unanimously agreed that the Branch should close, with effect from the 1st February 2006 and that the closure plan proposed by the current Committee should be adopted.
Members have already been advised of their future membership and subscription options.

2006 Diary Dates
For those transferring to the Southwold Branch, the Southwold events for the coming year will be posted on the RBL Notice Board.

Walberswick Common Lands Charity

The Trustees are looking for ideas for use of the 2005 covenanted profits from the car parks.  Do you have a project that would benefit the village of Walberswick and the people that live here? If so, please contact me on 724448, leave your name and address and I will put an application form through your door.
The initial meeting to discuss proposals will be held in March 2006 so you will need to get your application in by the end of February.

Walberswick Film Club

Sunday, 11th December saw the first film to be shown by the newly formed Walberswick Film Club when forty one members were entertained by 'Singin' in the Rain'. With its sparkling script, tremendous song and dance numbers, fine acting and charismatic performers, many regard it as the finest movie musical.
By way of complete contrast, our January film will be, 'Master and Commander, The Far Side of the World'
Based on the best-selling novels of Patrick O'Brian, this maritime adventure stars Russell Crowe as Captain "Lucky" Jack Aubrey and Paul Bettany as the ship's doctor, Stephen Maturin. Fascinating and historically detailed throughout, the heart of the film is about the lives of the ship's crew. It is about the bonds, fellowships and friendships of these men. Aubrey and Maturin tell bad jokes together, play music together and while they may have their differences of opinion on the Captain's tactics, they have a mutual respect, bordering on a sense of love, for one another.
It is the first time a movie has had permission to film on the Galapagos Islands and there is wonderful footage showing amazing glimpses of terrain, fauna and flora. The ship versus ship battle scenes are spectacular, whilst a chase around the storm-lashed Cape Horn is likely to leave you feeling as seasick and as drenched as the crew itself.
