WI - A HAPPY CHRISTMAS

Our President, Jenny Cardwell and her committee treated us to a wonderful party. There were thirty ladies present including guests from Westleton, as well as from our own village. After some fun but taxing quizzes, we watched a small group of belly dancers in their beautiful costumes. Some of our members were invited to join in and found it quite hard to coordinate their bodies!
Singing carols was much simpler, even after the usual bumper tea.
For our first meeting in 2006 on January 11th we have a speaker on English Nature. The following Wednesday we are having a New Year luncheon at The Bell.

Unsung Heroes

The village owes an enormous debt of gratitude to the kind and generous people who give their time and energy to collect our prescriptions from Southwold, and also to open the village hall for the weekly surgery sessions.
Grateful thanks from all concerned to: Grahame Godsmark, Mary King, Ann and Bill Sexton and Jill Whittenbury.
A great deal of kindness moves around in Walberswick and we are all very lucky to live here.

Cancer Research U.K. Mini Market 2005

Our final figure raised at the Mini Market on the 3rd December now stands at £1,470.
This is a marvellous result, particularly as our attendance numbers this year were down by 60 due, I think, to various other events being held and also to poor weather.
My very grateful thanks go to everyone who supported this event and to all the helpers who made it such a success. Also, a special thank you to Pat and Philip Kett for decorating the village hall in time for the event.
During the year we also raised £92 from the sale of plants, £170 from donations and made a £167 profit on a Pampered Chef Party, which gives us a final figure of nearly £1,900.

Used Christmas Cards

Mary King and I will again be collecting your old Christmas cards during January.
These are all pulped and the money raised goes to the Woodland Trust. You will find containers into which to put them outside Dutch House (The Street) and Shenburgh (opposite the church).

CHURCH MATTERS

Letter From The OLM

Another year has passed and here we are in 2006 - it seems only yesterday that we celebrated the Millennium. The Roman poet Virgil wrote words that echo in my mind:
'But meanwhile it is flying, irretrievable time is flying.'
If you are in the habit of making New Year resolutions perhaps it would not be unreasonable to resolve to make time for other people, a bit of loving your neighbour as yourself. You may feel that as a village community we are quite good at looking after each other but it would not hurt each one of us to go even further along that road.
If you feel unable to help someone but feel concerned about them please do not hesitate to contact me, or one of my clergy colleagues, if you think that somebody in the village might appreciate a visit.
You may have heard that the December Luncheon Club was an excellent event thoroughly enjoyed by all. May I reiterate that the Luncheon Club is for anyone in the village - it is not just for senior citizens! Our next lunch will take place on Friday 13th January 2006, at 12.30 p.m. in the Village Hall: the cost is £5.
Please note that there will not be a Choral Evensong service in St Andrew's during January; instead, we shall be joining Holy Trinity Blythburgh for their Epiphany Carol service on 8th January, at 6.00 p.m.
With every blessing for 2006,

Brian Fisher
