Village Hall Committee
Ron Horsey Retires
Ron has been treasurer of the Village Hall for the last ten years and this year has had the temerity to hand in his notice! In the introduction to the T.V. programme 'The Apprentice', the tycoon Alan Sugar is presented as being on top of his game. Well Ron has been on top of his game for all of those ten years. He is the 'Mr. Big' of the Village Hall, the star around which we members of the committee revolve like planets. On almost any topic, when we need clarification and advice, we turn to Ron and we are very rarely disappointed. In between our meetings we expect everything to run smoothly - and it does, thanks largely to Ron. He it is who sorts out the bookings and makes sure that we have a reassuring amount of money in the bank every month. What are the Government rules on alcohol in the village Hall? Ask Ron. What about Charity Commission Regulations? Ask Ron. And so it goes on. We will all miss him and the village owes him an enormous debt. Thank you Ron, enjoy your retirement. Yash Kadan has kindly stepped into the breach and will be the treasurer and bookings manager from the 1st May. He has been a regular visitor to the village for many years and has finally come to live here in Anna Edwards' old house in Palmers Lane. Contact him on 01502 722000.

Village Ceilidh
The last Ceilidh was a great success: so much so that there will be another Ceilidh at the village hall on Saturday, 3rd June 2006 at 7.30 p.m. The local band 'SPIT 'n POLISH', who promise to give us a rip-roaring evening, will provide the music. Tickets will be available from the village hall committee, or the Tuck Shop. There will be a bar, food and raffle. Funds raised will be in aid of the village hall car park repairs. Please support your local hall and have an entertaining evening at the same time. For more information phone 722255/722611 Village Hall Ceilidh Organizing Committee

April Parish Council Report
Horse Riding On Footpaths - Some riders are using the footpaths, rather than the bridleways. If anyone is unsure of which paths are bridleways, Rights of Way maps are available at the Tuck Shop. Planning -Unopposed: MULBERRY HOUSE, Millfield Road - Conversion of garage, with addition of a dormer window, so as to provide a playroom/ guest suite. SEVEN ACRES HOUSE, Lodge Road: Erection of rear conservatory. WESTWOOD, Lodge Road: Subdivision into two separate dwellings, with new vehicular access and improvements to existing access. Opposed: THE STUDIO, Stocks Lane: Alterations to the garages. The Council had opposed the original application and considered the proposed alterations to the garages would make the situation worse, as they would detract from the symmetry of the building. Temporary Speed Restriction - Suffolk County Council has advised that temporary speed restrictions will take place either side of the existing 30 mph speed limit, whilst they carry out surfacing works and construction of a gateway. This would be happening at the end of April. Blyth Estuary - Councillor D Webb stated that the Combined Working Group was very frustrated to learn that the Environment Agency was reconsidering their options. They have written to the Agency asking if they would be prepared to work with Local Councils and invited them to their next meeting on 24th April. Quad Bikes on the beach - Four have been seen on the beach. This was an offence under the Water Resources Act and Councillors considered that this should be kept under surveillance.

Peter Panto Revisited (By a Walberswick theatre critic)
I didn't do it earlier because I would have been obliged to say that one of the megastars was my own daughter Nagem - and that would have ruined my reputation as a completely unbiased theatre critic. But perhaps I should have and it still isn't too late. I could oh so easily say that it was a first class production from top to bottom, with many stars, heroes and backroom brilliance (all of that is true). Instead I have two enduring memories - firstly the idea of a centre stage put the performance into the laps of the audience. My second memory is that of bright yellow marigold gloves! I saw more than one youngster nearly rip out Smee's heart, shouting that the crocodile was behind him! Brilliant! Well Done! Peter Panto will be a tough act to follow.

Suffolk Historic Churches' Trust Twenty-fifth Sponsored Cycle Ride
Very advanced date for your diary, which is for the 9th of September this year. Margot and Maurice Godbold (always keen supporters) have kindly taken over from me as local organisers and I am extremely grateful to them for so doing. Watch this space for details later in the year.
