Walberswick Film Club

The Walberswick Film Club will recommence on Sunday, 17th September.
Our inaugural season was so successful, that we shall hope to show eight films during the 2006-7 winter months for the same subscription as last year - £12.00. By popular demand we shall continue our showings on Sundays, but we are moving to the third Sunday of each month, with the exception of December. Posters will be displayed and members kept informed of our choices, together with the appropriate synopsis by email and snail-mail. Thank you all for being so supportive.
Our first film will be
West Side Story directed by Robert Wise and starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, George Chakiris and Rita Moreno. The story of Romeo and Juliet has been updated to the 1950s and set in New York's Upper West Side. The star-crossed lovers are from feuding street gangs, the Anglo Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. The innovative choreography of Jerome Robbins and infectious score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim combine to set our toes tapping and hearts singing along with songs such as 'America', 'Tonight', 'I feel Pretty', 'Gee Officer Krupke', 'Maria', etc.
Subscriptions: £12 to Kay Ungless at Winton, The Street (near The Tuck Shop)
Entrance: Members £2, guests £4 and non-members £5: guests and non-members are limited to two showings in the year.
West Side Story (Cert PG): 7.30 p.m. Sunday, 17th September 2006 in the Village Hall.

August Parish Council Report

Planning Matters - The Parish Council has no objections to the following applications: - Proposed dormers in lieu of existing Velux windows to Ferry House, Ferry Road: the erection of a single-storey rear extension at Kermont, The Street and the erection of single-storey side extension, first floor side extension and balcony to Seaspray, Millfield Road.
Suffolk Coastal has granted permission for the erection of a replacement dwelling, carport and alterations to existing vehicular access to Shortlands, Palmers Lane. They have also granted permission for a two-storey and single-storey extension and replacement garage at Littlestowe, Leveretts Lane. Both were subject to the developments being carried out in accordance with the submitted plans and to conditions set by the Planning Authority.
Blyth Estuary - The Environment Agency disputed the Group's findings, still considered that the tidal prism was increasing and that there was no significant accretion in the estuary: despite local opinion to the contrary. However, Dr Alan Thompson, a geomorphologist, has given independent advice and supported the Group's findings. The Council and Southwold Town Council agreed to attend a meeting with Dr. Thompson on Monday 13th August.
Local Matters - The toilets have been repainted. The Jubilee seat required a false roof to prevent the thatch being vandalised. Complaints have been received about the ragwort on Cliff Field: this would be passed on to the Trust. Complaints have also been received about children playing football on the Village Green. Councillors felt unable to prevent this as the Village Green was a play area, however, Councillor Buncombe agreed to look into the possibility of providing goal posts for the sports field.

Alternative Medicine & Reflexology

Members meet again on Wednesday, 13th September at 2.30 p.m. in the Village Hall, to learn about alternative medicine and reflexology from Pam Webb and Mandy Aldridge, who live here in Walberswick. We are most grateful to them for giving up their time to talk to us on this interesting subject.
In July, another Walberswick resident, Alan Walpole, gave us an excellent talk and demonstration on furniture restoration.
